Our Curriculum

At Trinity Preschool we incorporate the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) in our education program.  Fundamental to the framework is a view of the children’s lives as characterized by “being, belonging and becoming”. Our curriculum is aimed at supporting your child’s wellbeing and learning, and providing experiences so that we may support your whole child’s development within the context of their culture and their community.  At Trinity Preschool we aim to create possibilities and opportunities for your child to develop their interests and their strengths, and for them to engage in meaningful relationships. We consider that it is important to

  • Provide a stimulating, enriching and engaging environment, which is a place for wonder and delight, where children are able to make choices, problem solve, create, investigate and exchange ideas. We believe that attention to aesthetic helps create an environment that promotes a sense of well-being and enhances learning.
  • Engage positively in interactions with children using excellent skills in communication to extend the children’s thinking.
  • Provide opportunities for the children to develop strong and meaningful relationships with other children.
  • Organise daily living experiences and routines that are predicable yet flexible to allow for serendipity.
  • Guiding children to represent their ideas through different means, i.e. drawing, painting, clay work, physical movement writing and socio-dramatis play.

The content matter for our curriculum will emerge from

  • The children’s interest, strengths, question and concerns
  • From the teachers interests
  • From developmental tasks that need to be developed
  • From things in the environment, such as nature (insects and bugs, trees etc)
  • From unexpected events
  • From the daily task of living together
  • From the people living in our community, their culture and customs.

Curriculum areas such as art, music, blocks, jigsaws, manipulative, literature, drama and movement are provided on a daily basis. These are not always seen as separate activities but are often integrated throughout the day.

Central to our curriculum is our belief of the value of play. At Trinity Preschool we recognize play as being the most valuable context in which children learn cognitively, socially and emotionally. Rich play experiences during the Preschool years can lay a strong foundation for the years ahead including adding enormous benefits to academic skills such as reading, writing, maths, science and the arts. It also allows children practice in developing important relationships, communication skills, to think for themselves, to gain confidence, to develop curiosity, confidence, and self control and to exchange ideas.
